We were given the go ahead to switch into our new classes today. Students have been able to connect with their new peers and teachers this afternoon and teachers would love to have school supplies sent in tomorrow. If you ordered them from Staples, your child will be bringing them home today:)

The first full day of school was a success. Students, teachers and parents are eager to find out permanent class placements for the year. A great deal of time and consideration has gone into our class building process so please refrain from making class change requests. Instead work with your child and their teacher to make the most of the experiences and opportunities in their 2018/2019 classes. We are waiting to hear from the School Board to get the go ahead to move into our new classes. If you are concerned about where to meet your child after the classes have switched it may be helpful to establish a meeting place outside so they know where to find you at the end of the day once the classes have changed.

If you ordered school supplies through Staples they are going to be given to students tomorrow. Before labeling supplies please check with your classroom teacher as some items will not require a label.

Communication between school and home is important and we now have a new Willway app! Students and parents can download it to their cell phones to stay current with announcements and school news. Instructions are available here:

The City of Langford is installing sanitary sewers on Sooke Lake Road. A detour is in effect at Mount Wells Drive directing traffic around Sooke Lake Road while the construction is underway. The City anticipates this detour to remain in effect until mid to late September. Thank you for your patience and please plan your driving routes accordingly. Welcome Back to School!

On Tuesday, September 4th we will be welcoming Willway students back for another exciting year of learning and fun. The floors are shiny and the school is sparkling clean. Teachers have been setting up their classrooms and preparing for the students to return. We have grown by a division this year and will now have nine classes at Willway. Strong Start has moved to the other end of our building to accomodate another primary classroom in its previous space.

The school bell schedule will be slightly different this year as we will start at 8:45 a.m., enjoy recess from 10:25 to 10:40, eat lunch in classrooms with teachers present around 12:00 and head outside for lunch recess from 12:13-1:00.  The end of the day bell will ring at 2:40 p.m. for dismissal.

Our first day back will begin at 8:45 and students will join their teacher from last year.  Please ask your child to line up in the same spot as last year when the bell rings. The first day will end at 11:40 a.m. and students will only need to bring a snack that day as we will not be in session for lunch.  Wednesday is the first full day of class and students will need both a snack and a lunch.

Students will return to their last year’s class for the first couple of days and should be in their new classrooms by Friday afternoon.  Please send your child with school supplies once your child has been placed in their class for this year. School supply lists can be located on the website under the student tab.

We will continue to use our website and a My Willway app to keep families informed about Willway events and happenings. You can download the My Willway app from the app store for free and allow it to send push notifications to your phone.

You can get a head start on the September school paperwork by finding our district consent forms online.  These forms can be signed online at https://consent.sd62.bc.ca/apps/OnlineConsent

Enjoy the last few days of family time and summer days! We look forward to seeing you next week!

And that’s a wrap folks! School is out for summer. We wish all Willway families all the best this summer. We hope it is filled with fun, sun and family.

Thank you for all your support this year and a great big thank you to the parents that are leaving us from the PAC as their kids move up to middle school next year. We couldn’t offer the amazing opportunities for students that we do without your support. Ms. Henson and Ms. Laidlaw are looking forward to working with the new PAC this fall and they are always open to having new parents join!

So from all staff at Willway to our great community-Have a wonderful summer and we will be eagerly awaiting your return in September!

We are looking forward to Monday as we celebrate our grade fives moving on to middle school in September. The ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m. Willway students will partake in some fun afternoon activities and stations on Wednesday, June 27th and our final day of school is on June 28th. It is a full day of school and all are welcome to join us at our year end assembly at 10:45 a.m. Report cards will go home on this day.

It was a wonderful day at the beach today. Lots of sun, sand and playtime was had. Thank you to the PAC for providing cool treats at the beach.  We are feeling so fortunate to be a part of the Willway community. As this year closes we look forward to next year, but first a much needed break for all!

We were all fortunate enough to take part in Music Monday this week at the Q center and are so proud of how the students participated and sang. We were entertained and engaged in a morning of music which always feels positive. Be sure to ask your children about the wonderful time we had as a school when the Esquimalt Dancers came to share dancing, drumming and song with our students. It was a fun-filled and engaging experience that got the whole school dancing together!

Thanks to our incredible PAC for working so hard and making sure Willway school has great resources, fabulous learning opportunities and incredible spirit.
